  • One of Jeff’s first jobs was on his fathers regenerative, biodynamic organic fruit, vegetable and goat cheese dairy farm in Mocca Dominican Republic

  • Our family helps with R&D on every new product to ensure its good enough for your family.

  • We are nimble and flexible to meet your needs

  • We are committed to the betterment of the health and sustainability of our customers, farmers, communities and the environment through organic farming practices 100%, always and only!

Organic Commitment

All of our feed and land is certified organic, this provision ensures the optimal quality for the land and animals we raise and in turn impacts the safety and nutrition of the product we provide for our customers.

Health Benefits

Free of antibiotics, growth hormones and GMO’s, our products also are free from potentially dangerous additives and mystery ingredients to bring you a clean, wholesome product variety. The healthy diet for our animals such as grass fed cows allow us to obtain higher levels of beta carotene, omega 3’s and Vitamin E in our cheese line.

Environmental Stewardship

We are equally passionate about our animal husbandry as we are about the land on which they roam. We ensure the same organic standards that apply to raising our animals apply to the land they call home. All of our farmland is certified organic and our animals have free range access to outdoor areas that provide natural sunlight and fresh air. The practice of grass-fed diets for our cows is optimal to absorb the greater nutrients that grass provides and we rotate fields as needed to keep the land and watershed clean and responsibly maintained.

Animal Welfare

Our animals are treated at or above the alrady elevated organic standards throughout their life cycle; they have more roaming space and better indoor space during harsh weather than the industry standards. They enjoy an organic diet to ensure natural goodness and optimal health.

Product of the USA

Sustainability, environmental impact, and food safety are optimized; thanks to our products being sourced domestically and can be traced to their farm. All of our animals are from the USA.

Giving Back to the Nuna(land) forbearers:

We make a donation each quarter to Native American foundations such as the Hopi Foundation which is dedicated to preserving traditional organic farming traditions and developing local sustainable strategies to promote wellness within Native Nations.

At Organic Nuna (Hopi for Land) we have the highest reverence for Mother Earth and all that call her home, that is why we are 100% Organic, Always and Only! The Native American history of caring for the land is like no other, we share the spirit of reverence for the land and support programs such as the Hopi Native American Tutkswa Permaculture Institute as well as other organizations that protect Native land, the health of Native communities and the reverence for Native heritage.

The Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture Institute is a community-based non-profit founded in 2004 and based in the Village of Kykotsmovi which is located in Northern Arizona, USA on the Hopi Reservation. Their mission is to create community-based solutions in order to pass knowledge to future generations and rebuild culturally sustainable and healthy communities.

In the Hopi language “Hopi Tutskwa” refers to the lifeway and knowledge of the land and soil. The origins of Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture stem from a deep commitment to maintaining their distinct identity and lifeways as Hopi people in order to pass knowledge to future generations and rebuild sustainable and healthy communities.

Their vision is to strengthen the community through the continued intergenerational practices of traditional Hopi farming and gardening, rainwater harvesting and spring restoration, natural building, and orchard-keeping while applying applicable Permaculture principles, methods, and techniques.

GET TO KNOW US:

Meet our Leader

JEFF LICHTENSTEIN

CHIEF EARTH OFFICER  | FOUNDER

One of Jeff’s earliest memories was visiting his grandparents’ luncheonette in Brooklyn, Sal & Al’s (Sally and Aaron to sound tougher). Like most kids from NYC, after college, Jeff embarked on a career as a Biodynamic Produce and Goat Farmer / Cheese Maker in the Dominican Republic- really! It was there that Jeff decided to further pursue his passion for organic farming and food back in the USA.  Soon after, he bootstrap launched Gourmet Guru, NYC’s first Natural / Organic Retail Incubator / Distributor, heralded as “the new company, company”. Later he Co-Founded UNFI Next.

Second only to raising his kids, Jeff's greatest joy is working with folks that share his passion for supporting and converting farms to organic which he has done for 25 years.

Frequently Asked:

Q: How is it optimal to serve Organic Nuna deli meats and cheese?

A: Because we have the purest and unadulterated recipe in the USA, the texture is most similar to Thanksgiving turkey.   Therefore it is best to separate our presliced product, with a knife and allow it to sit out of refrigeration for a few minutes before serving.

Q:  Do your products contain any GMOs?

A:  Our products do not contain any genetically modified ingredients.  By USDA standards, the use of GMOs is prohibited in organic products.  This means that our meat is raised on GMO-free certified organic land and is fed a non-GMO, completely organic diet.

Q. What is the difference between a "natural" product and an organic product?

A: At Organic Nuna we believe the only thing that is “natural” is Organic! That is because the definition of “natural” is in great debate and often very loosely defined. While the ability to term a product "natural" by USDA labeling requirements is met by the end product being “minimally processed” and containing “no artificial ingredients”, the organic certification is much more thorough and clearly defined. "Natural" says nothing about the farm practices or how an animal is raised. For instance, a naturally raised cow can eat grass and feed that has been sprayed with artificial pesticides, a naturally raised pig may never see the light of day being kept indoors for its entire life span! Organic, on the other hand, ensures that the land is certified organic, animal welfare (including space and sunlight) standards are enforced, and that a product is completely free of antibiotics and hormones, as well as being raised on a more sustainable, non-GMO, fully organic diet. This distinction is why we have chosen to maintain a completely 100% organic line of products, always and only.

Q: What is carrageenan and why do you leave it out of your deli products?

A: Carrageenan is a seaweed extract that is used in some deli meat products and serves to control the texture and acts as a water-holding ingredient. Although it is an approved ingredient under the USDA's organic standards, we believe that it is not only unnecessary, but recent research shows that it may adversely affect gastrointestinal health. In comparison to deli meats that use water-holding ingredients, our product contains more actual meat per ounce.

Q: Why is Organic Nuna better than the rest?

A: Chefs and those in the culinary community tell us they prefer our purity in taste and texture over the industry standard of highly processed gelatinous, water-absorbent, Spam-like mystery meat profile that is essentially “deli loaf” called turkey breast, which their accountants love for the “better yield”. Avoiding all that science and getting as close as we could to our grandmothers’ holiday recipe is a big part of our mission and is what has allowed us to be the first Paleo certificated deli meat in the country. As we know, eating the best is always worth a little extra effort, think cork vs twist off, crockpot wine, etc.
